Search begins for specialist to lead Lord Hill statue fundraising
Shropshire Council has started the search for a specialist to lead a fundraising campaign for restoration work to the statue of Lord Hill. "Sadly, the actual statue of Lord Hill is now deteriorating and requires replacement. Historic England requires that it is replaced using the same techniques as the original." Specialist fundraising services are required to identify potential fundraising streams and income generating opportunities, while also developing a funding strategy to secure grants and donations for the replication of the statue.

New dispersal order for Shrewsbury town centre as police called to busy Quarry
Police said that they were called to the Quarry in Shrewsbury at about 9.30pm on Wednesday, to reports that a group of around 50 young people were congregating in contravention of lockdown rules. While the majority of people in the Quarry have been in smaller groups, larger groups of youths gathered on Monday and Tuesday drinking and listening to music as temperatures neared 20C. However, West Mercia Police has now once again introduced a dispersal notice and said officers would be increasing patrols.

Single CCG group in charge of buying NHS healthcare services in Shropshire launches

There were two clinical commissioning groups - one overseeing services in Shropshire and the other in Telford & Wrekin - but from today the new group, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin CCG, will be in charge of the planning, buying and monitoring of local health services. The two governing bodies for Shropshire CCG and Telford and Wrekin CCG have been working closely together since August, so are in a good position to move forward as a single organisation. The plans to form a single CCG were approved last year by NHS bosses, with an expectation that it will get rid of "duplication and inconsistency".

Shropshire baby deaths scandal: NHS to spend £95 million improving maternity care following damning report
NHS England has committed to investing £95 million for workforce numbers, training and development programmes to support culture and leadership, and strengthening board assurance and surveillance to identify issues earlier. The inquiry into deaths and allegations of poor care at SaTH was set up in 2017 and is reviewing 1,862 families – making it "the largest number of clinical reviews undertaken relating to a single service, as part of an inquiry, in the history of the NHS". The chief executive of the trust apologised for the "pain and distress" caused to mothers and families due to poor maternity care – after the review found staff had been "flippant", "abrupt" and "dismissive".
